FEAR NOT: No Fear In DEATH

BIG IDEA
The opposite of fear is peace. It is not courage, as we often think. Inner peace precedes acts of courage. Courage moves us forward in the battle, but peace keeps us from retreating. Peace – even in the face of death – is the bequest Jesus left for His followers before He returned to heaven. That peace overcomes even the fear of death.

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. John 20:19-22

JESUS’ PEACE OVERCOMES OUR FEAR

Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord. John 20:19,20

JESUS’ PEACE CALMS OUR FEAR OF DEATH

“All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” John 14:25-27

JESUS’ VICTORY OVER DEATH REMOVES OUR FEAR

I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:50-57

How to have No Fear In Death:
1. Make Jesus Your Savior & Friend (John 11:25-26)

  1. Follow Jesus In This Life (Luke 9:23-24; Romans 6:6,8; Galatians 2:20)

  2. Follow Jesus Into The Next Life (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)
