Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
- Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)
Faith is confidence that God is, and he will do what He promised to do.
This is what the ancients were commended for.
- Hebrews 11:2 (NIV)
I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.
- Genesis 12:2 (NIV)
I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earthwill be blessed through you.
- Genesis 12:3 (NIV)
All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.
- Hebrews 11:13 (NIV)
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
- Hebrews 12:1-3 (NIV)
