Matthew 4:11
11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.
MINISTERED = to serve, to take care of, to attend to anything that may serve another’s interest, to supply anything needed.
ANGELS ARE DIVINE
Angels are mentioned more than 190 times in the New Testament alone
SEEING INTO THE SUPERNATURAL REALM IS NOT “EVENT BASED”
- IT IS AN ABILITY WE ALL HAVE
- IT IS A SENSITIVITIY MATURE SAINTS ARE CALLED TO AQUIRE.
SEEING INTO SUPERNATURAL IS NOT USUALLY AN
- IT HAPPENS WHEN WE PURPOSELY OPEN THE EYES OF OUR SPIRIT TO THE SPIRIT REALM.
SEEING (or acknowledging the presence of) ANGELS IS
Hebrews 1:14
14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
We can become more aware of the presence of angels in our lives:
FIRST AND FOREMOST, we must
Matthew 5:6
6 Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.
RIGHTOUESNESS = God’s way of doing things.
Righteousness = on earth as it is in Heaven.
Hunger is shown through:
HUNGER IS SHOWN IN time in the WORD - you see what Jesus did and how He operated.
Jeremiah 15:16
16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.
1 Peter 2:2 - 3
2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
HUNGER IS SHOWN IN time in PRAYER - you start to act like Him, see like Him.
Psalm 42:1 - 2
1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?
HUNGER IS SHOWN IN time in SUPPLICATION - asking God for things. When we pray and are hungry for the answers, we also are called to open our eyes to the spiritual reality of what is happening!
Genesis 19:1 - 3
1 And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;
2 And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant’s house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.
3 And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.
- Moses prayed and an angel stood between the army of Egypt and the children of Israel, bringing deliverance for God’s chosen people.
Exodus 14:15 – 20
15 And the Lord said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward:
16 But lift thou up thy rod, and stretch out thine hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.
17 And I, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.
18 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the Lord, when I have gotten me honour upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.
19 And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them:
20 And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night.
- King Hezekiah prayed to the Lord for help, and God responded by sending His angel to kill 185,000 enemy soldiers.
15 And Hezekiah prayed before the Lord, and said, O Lord God of Israel, which dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth.
16 Lord, bow down thine ear, and hear: open, Lord, thine eyes, and see: and hear the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent him to reproach the living God.
17 Of a truth, Lord, the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations and their lands,
18 And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.
19 Now therefore, O Lord our God, I beseech thee, save thou us out of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the Lord God, even thou only.
v. 35 And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the Lord went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.
SOMEONE PRAYED AND GOD SENT ANGELS IN.
- After Jesus prayed on the Mount of Olives, an angel from heaven appeared and strengthened Him during His time of need.
Luke 22:41 – 43
41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
43 And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
- Believers prayed for Peter’s release from prison and God responded by sending an angel to bring supernatural deliverance.
Acts 12:5 – 11
5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.
6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.
7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.
8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.
9 And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.
10 When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.
11 And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.
- When Cornelius prayed, an angel was sent to his home, bringing a divine connection to Spirit-birthed revelation that resulted in the salvation of his household.
Acts 10:3 - 7
3 He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.
4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:
6 He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
7 And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;
The HOLY SPIRIT is comforter, guide, support, standby, advocate, sanctifier, intercessor, wisdom, joy…all of His workings and attributes are within.
ANGELS are all SPIRITUAL BEINGS that affect the PHYSICAL WORLD:
- Messengers - with audible messages to people.
- Warriors - who actually attack physical armies.
- Guides - who demonstrate their guidance with physical demonstrations.
- Worshippers - The Holy Spirit does not worship God… HE IS GOD… angels are manifested for worship.
HUNGER IS SHOWN IN time in WORSHIP - Worship opens you to spiritual realities. MUSIC is one of the greatest vehicles for worship that changes our reality. It’s not the only one…
SECOND, ASK for REVELEATION of the SPIRITUAL REALM:
Matthew 7:7
7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
- Ask Him! Be hungry and ask!
- after you ask - SEEK - lean in to see! //
- Push forward! Don’t expect that it drops in your lap…
- Knocking = being persistent and persevering despite obstacles in front of you. It’s a sense of URGENCY!
James 1:5 - 6
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
James 4:2 - 3
2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
Sometimes we ASK but we never get the answer because our ASKING is about “us” and not about KINGDOM.
THIRD, DEVELOP SPIRITUAL SENSITIVITY/MINDSET:
Colossians 3:2
2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
WHEN WE FEEL EMOTIONALLY CHARGED - we know the enemy is trying to get us to walk backward.
- LEARN TO IMMEDIATELY LOOK INTO THE SUPERNATURAL REALM…
WHEN WE FEEL OVERWHELMED
- LOOK
“Holy Spirit, what are you saying”
“What are you doing”
“What do you want from me this moment?”
FOURTH - TRAIN YOURSELF TO SEE GOD’S WAY FIRST
1 Timothy 4:7 - 8
7 But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
WHAT IS “GODLINESS”?
- being like God.
- God uses angels.
EXCERCISE…
- what does it feel like when you start?
- when you get agitated can you ask to recognize the angelic presence in the room?
- when you are frustrated with people - can you call for angels to act?
THE FOUR POINTS for tonight….
- HUNGER and THIRST
- ASK for REVELATION
- DEVELOP GREATER SENSITIVITY
- TRAIN YOURSELF to SEE GOD FIRST
