The Rhythm of Creation

“By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.” Genesis 2:2-3 (NIV)

Rhythm of Creation – Work and Rest

Work is good.

Genesis 1:26-28

God rested.

“Work and rest live in symbiotic relationship. If you don’t learn how to rest well, you will never learn how to work well (vice versa). After all, the opposite of work isn’t rest – it’s sleep. Work and rest are friends, not enemies. They are bride and groom who come together to make full, well-rounded life.” —John Mark Comer

Blessed Rest.

Holy Rest.

“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work…” Exodus 20:8-10

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 (NIV)

1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers. Psalm 1:1-3 (NIV)
