The Breath Of God
Part of Nothing like the Presence

What God Breathes Upon is Never The Same

When we say that the “spirit of the Lord” came upon an individual, we are saying that God breathed upon and into an individual. When we say that we need a move of the Holy Spirit, we are saying that we need God to breathe His life into our situation.

We need to come into proximity with the Breath of God.

2Co 3:17 For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
NLT —NLT

1Sa 10:1 Then Samuel took a flask of olive oil and poured it over Saul’s head. He kissed Saul and said, “I am doing this because the LORD has appointed you to be the ruler over Israel, his special possession.

  • Oil was used to symbolise what was about to take place in the spirit.

1. THE BREATH OF GOD SETS US APART

The Spirit of the Lord transforms us.
We will be tempted from time to time in our spiritual journey to opt for transformation by behavior modification instead of transformation in the presence of God.
We start off ok but quickly see Legalism as an alternate route to transformation.
We say things like mature believers don’t need to feel His presence to be changed.
It’s important to understand that our practices of the faith are supposed to be like the oil poured over Saul. It didn’t transform him.

  • 1Sa 10:6 At that time the Spirit of the LORD will come powerfully upon you, and you will prophesy with them. You will be changed into a different person.
  • 1Sa 10:7 After these signs take place, do what must be done, for God is with you.
  • 1Sa 10:8 Then go down to Gilgal ahead of me. I will join you there to sacrifice burnt offerings and peace offerings. You must wait for seven days until I arrive and give you further instructions.”
    a. Waiting was not normal for kings. People usually waited for kings.
    b. God was establishing the King of His people differently. He expected Saul and
future Kings to wait to hear from God through the prophet of God.
    c. When Saul did not wait, it got him into trouble.
    d. Even though Saul prophesied he knew full well that it was not his office.
    Saul’s Unlawful Sacrifice

1Sa 13:13 And Samuel said to Saul, “You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of the LORD your God, which He commanded you. For now the LORD would have established your kingdom over Israel forever.
1Sa 13:14 But now your kingdom shall not continue. The LORD has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the LORD has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the LORD commanded you.” —NKJV

FAITH BROUGHT SAUL INTO PROXIMITY and ENCOUNTER
- 1Sa 10:9 As Saul turned and started to leave, God gave him a new
heart, and all Samuel’s signs were fulfilled that day.
a. FAITH IS NOT MIND OVER MATTER; FAITH IS LEANING INTO THE PROMISE
AND MOVING IN THAT DIRECTION.
b. Water into wine

Joh 2:5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”
Joh 2:6 Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece.
Joh 2:7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim.
Joh 2:8 And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. —NKJV
c. FAITH IS NOT STAYING STILL; IT IS MOVING IN THE DIRECTION OF THE WORD OF/FROM GOD.

2. THE BREATH OF GOD TRANSFORMS US

  • The breath of GOD REVEALS the gifts of God.

3. THE BREATH OF GOD CONFIRMS THE CALL OF GOD.

1Sa 10:13 When Saul had finished prophesying, he went up to the place of worship.
1Sa 10:14 “Where have you been?” Saul’s uncle asked him and his servant. “We were looking for the donkeys,” Saul replied, “but we couldn’t find them. So we went to Samuel to ask him where they were.”
1Sa 10:15 “Oh? And what did he say?” his uncle asked.
1Sa 10:16 “He told us that the donkeys had already been found,” Saul replied. But Saul
didn’t tell his uncle what Samuel said about the kingdom.

TIMOTHY
1Ti 1:18 This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies
previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, 1Ti 1:19 having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning
the faith have suffered shipwreck,
1Sa 10:25 Then Samuel explained to the people the behavior of royalty, and wrote it in a book and laid it up before the LORD. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.
1Sa 10:26 And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and valiant men went with him, whose hearts God had touched.

  • The best leaders to follow are appointed and anointed
1Sa 10:27 But some rebels said, “How can this man save us?” So they despised him, and brought him no presents. But he held his peace.

And when The Spirit of the Lord comes upon you, you will be changed into a different person!
