Prayer of Faith | SMALL GROUP LESSON

Series Key Text:

18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints

Today’s Key Text: James 5:13-18

13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

Discussion Questions:

1 Out of the four areas James uses within the prayer of Faith, which of these are you most familiar with, and which seems the most difficult to grasp?
Prayer of Agony
Prayer of Adoration
Prayer of Anointing
Prayer of Admittance

2 In the message, it was stated that the prayer of faith must be done in EFFECTUAL FERVOR. Why do you think that is can be so easy for us to pray with passivity instead? How do you think this can be consistently reversed in your prayer life?

3 James says, we must confess our sins to one another, and this is probably one of the hardest things to do in our faith walk. Take some time with the group and discuss with each other why it may be so hard for believers to confess thier faults with each other.

Activation

This week, jot down a list of things you need from God, and spend about ten minutes daily praying for it. While doing so, ask the Lord if there’s any sin you need to confess. If he shows you anything, repent of it, and then prayer with confidence that God hears you.
* Remember, pray BIG prayers, Believe God for big things, and testify as he answers.
