The Gospel – What is Your Story?
Ephesians 2:1-10
Preacher: Mitch Myer (Youth Minister)
Use the following questions based on today’s sermon as a starting point for spiritual discussions with your family or a small group of Christian friends this week.
Fellowship—Relationship with a Purpose
- What is your favorite story? What do you love about it?
- Does it parallel or overlap with the gospel story in any way? If so, how?
Growth—Thinking About Spiritual Matters
- Read Ephesians 2:1-3. How does Paul describe the Ephesians’ past? Why was it important for him to share this reminder of their past?
- What does this description show about our own stories of transformation? Are there any “boring” stories? How does this impact your view of your own testimony?
- Do people view themselves as spiritually “dead” in sin these days? What are the cultural barriers to seeing spiritual death in ourselves and others?
- What is your reaction to the opening words of verse four: “But God…”?
- What does it mean to be “made alive” with Christ? In what ways is this a future event? In what ways is it a present reality?
- How did your own salvation show God’s grace in you rather than your own work? Do you ever take any credit for His gift of salvation? When are you tempted to?
- How can you tell your own story to better reflect God’s role in the process? Practice sharing your testimony with others in your group.
Prayer – Taking Your Thoughts to God
- Offer a praise to God for the grace He has shown you! Describe the changes you’ve seen since he raised you from spiritual death to being alive with Christ
- Pray for boldness to share your story with others!
