Matthew 13:13b, 15a (NIV)
“Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear … .”

“For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes.”

Isaiah 50:4b-5a (NIV)
He … wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed. The Sovereign Lord has opened my ears … .

James 1:18 (NIV)
He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

Being born again is proof that you really can hear Him!

Cutting Down On The Interference

  • Be quicker to listen and slower to speak – not just when it comes to others, but also with Him!

James 1:19-20 (NIV)
My dear brothers and sister, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.

Silent - Listen

Matthew 11:29 (NIV)
“… I am gentle and humble in heart … .”

Throughout Scripture We See This Theme

  • God exalts the humble.

  • But the proud He knows from afar and even opposes.

Matthew 23:12,
Luke 14:11, 18:14,
James 4:6,
1 Peter 5:5

1 Samuel 3:10 (NIV)
“… Speak, for your servant is listening.”

Cutting Down On The Interference

  • Clean out your ears.

James 1:21 (NIV)
Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

1 Peter 3:7 (NIV)
Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.

Psalm 66:18 (NIV)
If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened … .

Cutting Down On The Interference

  • Act on what you have already heard through Scripture.

James 1:22-25 (NIV)
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it – not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it – they will be blessed in what they do.

James 1:26-27 (NIV)
Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

What Do You Do While You’re Waiting For The Voice Of God To Speak Further Into Your Life?

  • Keep a tight rein on your tongue – be quick to listen, and slow to speak.

  • Look after the voiceless: widows and orphans.

Proverbs 21:13 (NIV)
Whoever shuts their ears to the cry of the poor will also cry out and not be answered.

  • Keep yourself from being polluted by the world – clean out your ears.

John 14:21 (NIV)
“Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
