Leadership in the Church

Three questions that will help us understand leadership in the Church:

I. How is leadership in our church?

Colossians 1:17-18 NIV84 For by him all thing were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 18 He is before all things and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church.

A. Elders are called to

the Church.

1 Timothy 5:17 (NIV) The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching.

B. Elders are instructed to lead in

C. Elders are constrained by

II. What are leadership in our church?

A. Leaders are qualified by

1 Peter 5:1-4 ESV So I exhort the elders among you… 2 shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; 3 not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. 4 And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
