The Voice of the Lord Will …

  • Comfort, encourage, and strengthen us.

1 Corinthians 14:3 (NIV)
But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort.

1 Timothy 1:18-19 (NIV)
Timothy, my son, I am giving you this command in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by recalling them you may fight the battle well, holding on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to their faith.

  • Prompt us out of our idolatry and sin.

Isaiah 30:21 (NIV)
Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

Isaiah 30:22 (NIV)
*Then* you will desecrate your idols overlaid with silver and your images covered with gold; you will throw them away like a menstrual cloth and say to them, “Away with you!”

2 Corinthians 3:18 (NIV)
And we all … are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

Romans 8:1 (NIV)
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

  • Speak to the thoughts and attitudes of our hearts.

Hebrews 4:12-13 (NIV)
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give an account.

Hebrews 4:14-16 (NIV)
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are – yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Hebrews 13:21 (NIV)
… may he work in us what is pleasing to him … .

  • Call us out of our comfort zones.

Acts 21:10-14 (NIV)
After we had been there a number of days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. Coming over to us, he took Paul’s belt, tied his own hands and feet with it and said, “The Holy Spirit says, ‘In this way the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem will bind the owner of this belt and will hand him over to the Gentiles.’”

When we heard this, we and the people there pleaded with Paul not to go up to Jerusalem.

Then Paul answered, “Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.”

When he would Lord’s not be dissuaded, we gave up and said, “The will be done.”

Acts 20:23-24 (NIV)
“I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. However I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me – the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.”

1 Corinthians 16:8 (NIV)
But I will stay on at Ephesus until Pentecost, because a great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me.
