From the Beginning…
“A Priest of Righteousness”
Genesis 14:14-20
“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” Genesis 3:15
I. Abram rescues a captured
1. The battle of revenge. (vs 8-9)
2. The battle threatens God’s promise. (vs 10-16)
II. Abram is blessed by a
1. The introduction of a King and Priest. (vs 17-18)
2. The blessing from the King and Priest. (vs 19-20a)
Genesis 12:1-3
III. Abram tithes to a
1. God gave Abram the victory. (Genesis 14:20b)
2. God gave a greater emphasis on the One yet to come. (Hebrews 7:1-3)
(1) “Righteousness” means to be right with God.
(2) The “peace” that Christ brings is both the removal of hostility and a state of being.
3. God blessed Abram by someone greater than himself. (Hebrews 7:4-10)
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him. Who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” I Peter 2:9
