Be Real Together:
Take a few minutes to catch up, tell stories, and laugh together. Trust and friendship take time to build. If you’re launching a new DNA, one person should tell their story — what do we need to know about you? Next week, have another person in your DNA share their story.
Read Together:
Matthew 7:7-12 CSB
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. 9 Who among you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him. 12 Therefore, whatever you want others to do for you, do also the same for them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.James 1:17 CSB
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.Romans 2:11 CSB
For there is no favoritism with God.1 John 4:7-8 CSB
7 Dear friends, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
Grow Together: Observe and Apply
We need to ask, seek, and knock on the Father’s door to obtain what’s best and most satisfying for us. Our Father is all-powerful, good, and accessible. He is not far from any of us. He loves us and desires to have a relationship with each of us.
Take some time with your DNA to process through these questions together:
Have you ever asked God for something you did not get? Can you think of something specific you asked God for that you did receive? Why do you think we sometimes receive what we ask for and other times we don’t?
”Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” is a simple phrase that communicates a big idea. Where in your life would you say you live this out? Where do you fall short? Why do people deserve to be treated well?
What is Jesus telling us about the character of God when he compares God to a parent who loves to give his children good gifts? On what basis can we trust that this is true?
Pray Together:
Father God, we thank you that you call us your children, that we are your sons and your daughters.
Thank you that you give good gifts. You give us the very best.
Help us to come to you as our Father and trust that you alone satisfy us.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
