Scripture: Mark 13:1-8
Takeaway: It doesn’t take a genius to see trouble in the world—but it takes faith to see the good.
Take some time to share:
• One thing that you are thankful for this week.
• One thing you need.
• How can the group help?
Bible Discussion: Read Mark 13:1-8
• What do you think is the significance of the interaction between Jesus and his disciple in the opening verses?
• How does it seem to fit into the context of the previous story of the widow’s offering?
• Do you identify with the disciples’ question, wanting to know exactly when to expect the destruction Jesus is describing?
• Do you think Jesus is describing a specific point in time? Or something else?
Application:
• One of my favorite songs by Ray LaMontagne says, “Don’t put your trust in walls, cause walls will only crush you when they fall.” I can’t help but think of this verse when I hear those words. What do you think Jesus is saying in this verse?
• Why do you think we are so quick to trust in things that will inevitably fail us or cause us harm?
• How are we (as a church & as Christians) ensuring that the good that we do in the world goes beyond a “magnificent building” that may one day be destroyed? Will such an event mean the end of our work in the kingdom or is there more to our work in the kingdom than a beautiful structure?
Challenge: Look for the evidence of God’s goodness in the world beyond the obvious. Dig deep to see how God is at work despite the destruction & chaos that is so easy to focus on. Better yet, be the evidence of God’s goodness for someone this week!
