Deuteronomy 8:11-19, NKJV
“Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today, lest—when you have eaten and are full, and have built beautiful houses and dwell in them; and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold are multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied; when your heart is lifted up, and you forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage; who led you through that great and terrible wilderness, in which were fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty land where there was no water; who brought water for you out of the flinty rock; who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do you good in the end—then you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’ “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. Then it shall be, if you by any means forget the Lord your God, and follow other gods, and serve them and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish

Joshua 24:14, NKJV
“Now therefore, fear the Lord, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord!

To Remember the Lord is to:
• Fear Him
• Serve Him
• Obey Him
• Trust Him

Joshua 24:15-16, NKJV
And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Then the people answered, “Far be it from us to forsake the Lord to serve other gods!

Joshua 24:18b, NKJV
“We also will serve the Lord, for He is our God.”

1. What Do We Need To Remember About God?

A. Remember Who He Is

Joshua 24:17, NKJV
It was the Lord our God himself who brought us and our parents up out of Egypt, from that land of slavery…

B. Remember What He Has Done

  • He Saved Us
    Joshua 24:17, NKJV
It was the Lord our God himself who brought us and our parents up out of Egypt, from
    that land of slavery…

  • He Showed Us
    Joshua 24:17, NKJV
and performed those great signs before our eyes.

  • He Protected Us
    Joshua 24:17, NKJV
He protected us on our entire journey and among all the nations through which we traveled.

    *Deuteronomy 8:15, NKJV
who led you through that great and terrible wilderness, in which were fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty land where there was no water…*

• He Preserved Us

Deuteronomy 8:4, NKJV
Your garments did not wear out on you, nor did your foot swell these forty years.

• He Provided For Us

Deuteronomy 8:15-16, NKJV
who led you through that great and terrible wilderness, in which were fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty land where there was no water; who brought water for you out of the flinty rock; who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know…

• He Fought For Us

Joshua 24:18, NKJV
And the Lord drove out before us all the nations, including the Amorites, who lived in the land. We too will serve the Lord, because he is our God.”

Deuteronomy 3:21-22, MSG
I commanded Joshua at that time, “You’ve seen with your own two eyes everything God, your God, has done to these two kings. God is going to do the same thing to all the kingdoms over there across the river where you’re headed. Don’t be afraid of them. God, your God—he’s fighting for you.”

2. Why Do We Need To Remember God?

Judges 2:10, NKJV
When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the Lord nor the work which He had done for Israel.

3. How Can We Remember God?

• Stay in the Word.

Deuteronomy 6:6-8, NKJV
“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

• Write Your Testimony (Story).
• Set Up Memorials.

Joshua 24:26-27, NKJV
Then Joshua wrote these words in the Book of the Law of God. And he took a large stone, and set it up there under the oak that was by the sanctuary of the Lord. And Joshua said to all the people, “Behold, this stone shall be a witness to us, for it has heard all the words of the Lord which He spoke to us. It shall therefore be a witness to you, lest you deny your God.”
