1 Samuel 29:1-11

29:3-10 | Achish trusted David (you are as good in my sight as an angel of God), but the other Philistine commanders did not. This was God’s providence at work because their distrust prevented David from having to fight against the Israelites – something that surely would have kept him from being accepted as their king.

29:8 | The wording of this verse is unclear. In saying my lord the king, David could be referring to Saul, to Achish, or to the Lord. David was glad not to have to fight his countrymen, but he wanted to appear loyal to Achish.
