Prayer

If you see prayer primarily as an ongoing conversation with God, then you’ll realize there is really no such thing as an unanswered prayer.

But if prayer is first and foremost a conversation between you and God, then His promise to always listen may be the answer your heart needs most.

There is a verse in the Bible that is often misinterpreted
Psalm 37.3-4
3 Trust in the Lord and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
4 Take delight in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

He will shape your heart so it wants the things He already wants to give you. His desires will become your desires.

1 John 5.13-14
13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.  14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

God’s Word Calls Us to Pray

“Pray for those who persecute you” -Matthew 5:44 (NIV) [1]
“And when you pray …” -Matthew 6:5
“This, then, is how you should pray …” -Matthew 6:9
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” -Romans 12:12
“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.” -Ephesians 6:18
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” -Philippians 4:6
“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” -Colossians 4:2
“I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone …” -1 Timothy 2:1
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.1 Thessalonians 5.16-18

John 15.5
5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

“We have to put our expectations in the Lord and not in other things or people.” —The Power of Praying Woman, Stormie Omartian

Prayer works because God wants our complete dependence on Him.

Our prayer life brings us closer to Him through honest communication, just as any child does with their parents.

James 5.16
16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

When you think about what the real power of prayer is, it is not coming from a person who believes they can help themselves, but from a person who knows they can’t. —Clarence Haynes

In prayer God is not just concerned about your need, he is concerned about you and the people in your world as well.

Ephesians 6.18
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
