The BIG Story Of The Bible #44
The Resurrection: Did It REALLY Happen?
“Why are you frightened?” he asked. “Why are your hearts filled with doubt? Look at my hands. Look at my feet. You can see that it’s really me. Touch me and make sure that I am not a ghost, because ghosts don’t have bodies, as you see that I do.” As he spoke, he showed them his hands and his feet. Still they stood there in disbelief, filled with joy and wonder. —Luke 24:38-41 (NLT)
5 Common Objections To The Resurrection:
1. The Apostles Went To The Wrong
They decided to give the soldiers a large bribe. They told the soldiers, “You must say, ‘Jesus’ disciples came during the night while we were sleeping, and they stole his body…’” So the guards accepted the bribe and said what they were told to say. Their story spread widely among the Jews, and they still tell it today. —Matthew 27:12-15 (NLT)
2. Jesus Didn’t Really
They saw that he was already dead, so they didn’t break his legs. One of the soldiers, however, pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water flowed out. —John 19:33-34 (NLT)
3. The Disciples
“Sir,” they said, “we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise again.’ So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead…” “Take a guard,” Pilate answered. “Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how.” So they went and made the tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting the guard. —Matthew 27:62-66 (NLT)
When the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, “Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?” —Acts 1:6 (NLT)
4. The Resurrection Is Just A
I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. That Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. That He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. —1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (NLT)
If Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your faith is useless. —1 Corinthians 15:14 (NLT)
5. Jesus Is Still
I pray that you will begin to understand how incredibly great his power is to help those who believe him. It is that same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead. —Ephesians 1:19-20 (TLB)
We are made right in God’s sight when we trust in Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we all can be saved in this same way, no matter who we are or what we have done. —Romans 3:21 (NLT)
