Paul Warns About 3 Subtle Traps

1. BEWARE OF BECOMING A

   “You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? … After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain perfection by human effort?” Gal. 3:1, 3 (NB)

   “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Cor. 12;9

II. BEWARE OF BECOMING A

Definition:

"Now that you know God ... how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable principles?  Do you wish to be enslaved all over again?"  Gal. 4:8-10

"They are trying to make themselves good enough to gain God's favor by keeping laws and customs - but that is not God's way of salvation.  They don't understand that Christ gives to those who trust him, everything they are trying to get by keeping his laws!  Christ ends all that!"  Rom. 10:3 4 (LB)
    Result of Legalism:  Gal. 4:15

"The entire law is summed up in a single command:  Love your neighbor as yourself."  Gal. 5:14

III. BEWARE OF BECOMING A

Definition:

"You were running a good race.  Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth?  That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you!  A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough."  Gal. 5:7-8

    The Cause:


"We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves.  When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise!"  2 Cor. 10:12

    The Solution:

"Each one should test his own actions.  Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else."  Gal. 6:4


"If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed!"  John 8:36

"Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom!"  2 Cor. 3:17

"The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love."  Gal. 5:6
