“Justice is doing what is right according to the standard of God’s will and character as he has revealed it in his Word.”
In order to do justice, I need to calibrate my conscience to the Word of God.
Read Micah 6:8
1. Thinking about justice, can you identify some issues of injustice that you witnessed—or at least were aware of—as a child growing up?
The situation addressed in Micah 6 was one in which the people were interested in carrying on the outer trappings of “worship”, but were divorcing such “worship” from issues of justice and mercy. What are some of the dangers of “outward-only worship”?
When you hear the word “justice”, what comes to your mind?
Why is it so important to understand the nature of man, in terms of doing justice?
What are some of the things you have heard described as “just”, which are not in keeping with the Biblical definition of justice?
What are some of the things that Christians are tempted to “calibrate their consciences” in keeping with, which may not be in accord with the Bible?
As an exercise in “calibrating our consciences” to the Bible, choose one of the following issues and list Biblical teachings that come to bear on it:
• Immigration
• Poverty
• Environmental Policy
