Faithfulness
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! —Galatians 5:22-23
Faithfulness:
The Holman’s Bible Dictionary defines ‘faithful’ as “steadfast, dedicated, dependable and worthy of trust.”
The Bible uses the word Faithful to describe God 144 times.
The root word of faithfulness, Pistis, is the fourth most used word in the New Testament.
New Testament Word Usage
God: 1153
Jesus: 949
Lord: 606
Faith: 501
God is faithful- “steadfast, dedicated, dependable and worthy of trust.”
The question then becomes ARE WE?
Faithfulness is consistency in character and action!
God is faithful! Are we?
Kindness and Goodness consistently lived out over time is Faithfulness!
When we don’t trust those around us, our trust in God’s goodness also fades.
We don’t get to excuse our unfaithfulness!
Situational faithfulness is not faithfulness.
- If you are honest only when being honest won’t hurt you, you are not faithful to the character of Christ!
- If you give to help meet a need, only when it doesn’t inconvenience you, you are not faithful to the character of Christ who is generous.
- If you Guard your words and your eyes from unclean things only when certain people are around or you might be found out, then you are not faithful to the character of Christ.
- Unfaithfulness damages your character and the character of Christ you are supposed to represent and also damages the faith of others.
Pistis
Denotes the foundation of all a person’s willful activities, and the whole spectrum of a person’s acts and conduct.
Faith and faithfulness have more to do with how you behave as a result of what you believe than what you claim to believe.
