Baptisms - 1 Cor 12:13

March 27, 2022

foundation: base on which something stands; something that supports something else; undergarment that gives the body a more desirable shape…

Tradition is a theological teaching distinct from scripture, and it is infallible. It is to be received with the same assent as scripture for it is the Word of God. Tradition is superior to scripture. It would suffice without scripture. Scripture is a dead word which is brought to life by tradition. —-

many issues with that statement… tradition is important, but never our foundation…
Matt 15:3… “why do you disobey God because of your tradition…”
Mark 7:13… “you cancel the Word of God in order to hand down your tradition…”
1Cor 3:10-12… “according to grace, laid foundation… that foundation is Christ…”
Eph 2:19-22… “built on foundation… cornerstone is Christ Jesus Himself…”

focusing on questions that will change your life… what about baptisms…

ready to lay aside etp… Word is our final authority… three biblical baptisms… each has a different, distinct purpose… God desires we receive each one…

Family Baptism

do you have to be baptized to go to heaven… everyone who believes in Jesus undergoes a baptism the moment they believe… so whether you know it or not… if you are a Christian… you have been baptized by the Holy Spirit
Rom 6:3-6… “all of us were baptized into Christ… buried, raised, united w/Him…”
1Cor 12:13… “we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body…”

all believers baptized by HS into body of Christ… correct terms important… this is necessary first step that leads to other biblical baptisms… this is the baptism that you must have in order for you go to heaven…
John 6:40-47… “everyone and anyone who believes in Jesus has eternal life…”
Acts 16:30-31… “believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved…”
Rom 10:9-10… “confess with mouth… believe in heart… you will be saved…”
1Cor 1:21… “God was pleased to save those who believe…”

A man who knows he is saved by believing in Christ… does not… when he is baptized… make his baptism into a saving ordinance. In fact, he is the very best professor against that mistake… because he holds he has no right to be baptized until he is saved. —Charles Spurgeon

Water Baptism

choice every believer makes… after they receive family baptism by HS… baptized *by pastor/leader into water *in name of Jesus… water baptism does NOT save you…
Matt 28:19… “go and make disciples… baptizing them in Father, Son, HS…”
Acts 2:41… “those who believed… were baptized…”
Acts 8:12… “they believed the Good News… as a result, many were baptized…”

baptism is used 100 times… 79 referring to water baptism… ID badge connecting us to family… always immersion… infant baptism not in bible…
Matt 3:13-16… “after His baptism… Jesus came up out of the water…”
Acts 8:38-39… “went down into the water… came up out of the water…”
Acts 10:47-48… “can anyone withhold water… for being baptized…”
Col 2:11-12… “buried with Him in baptism… raised thru faith…”
baptizo… immerse, submerge, cleanse by submerging…

If you want to identify with Christ’s people… and expect them to identify with you… you first need to identify yourself with Christ… which is the purpose for baptism. Water baptism does not save a person… but Jesus means for His saved individuals to publicly identify with Him and His people. It’s one piece of how His citizens become official. It’s how they wave the flag. —Jonathan Leeman

water baptism is for all believers… of all ages… no classes required… in the early church… baptism followed belief so closely they were often linked as one…
Acts 8:30-38… “I believe Jesus is the Christ… Philip baptized him…”
Acts 9:17-18… “Saul, be filled with the HS… then he was baptized…”
Acts 16:30-33… “believe and be saved… right away the family was baptized…”

John’s baptism was a purification rite by which men confessed their sins, obtained pardon of sins, became qualified for the benefits of the Messiah’s kingdom, which was soon to be set up. Christian baptism is a rite of immersion in water, AFTER professing faith in Christ, having been born again by the HS, which identifies you publicly with Christ. —Strong’s Concordance

Spirit Baptism

strong etp… most misunderstood… least received… for all believers… not just certain denominations… must choose to be baptized b*y Jesus into the Holy Spirit*…
Matt 3:11… “I baptize with water… He will baptize you with the HS…”
Mark 1:8… “He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit…”
John 1:33… “One you see Spirit resting on… He is one who baptizes with HS…”

Spirit baptism is separate from family and water… not just HS in you… but you in HS… family baptism saves… water identifies… spirit empowers…
Luke 3-4… “Jesus baptized… HS came down… full of power… has anointed…”
Acts 1:3-8… “baptized with HS… receive power when the HS comes upon you…”
Acts 8:12-16… “believed… water baptized… prayed to receive HS…”
Acts 10… “after baptism… God anointed Jesus with HS and with power…”
Acts 19… “did you receive HS when you believed… no, hadn’t heard of HS…”
chrio… furnish Jesus with necessary power; give Christians gifts of HS…

being baptized by Jesus into the Spirit is normal for all Christians… absolutely necessary for you to live victorious life… Full sermons - 11/10/19 & 2/28/21
Acts 10:43-48… “HS came down… HS was poured out on the Gentiles…”
Acts 19:1-6… “when Paul laid hands on them… the HS came on them…”
1Cor 2:9-16… “receive HS… to understand what has been freely given to us…”

Trying to do the Lord’s work in your own strength is the most confusing, most exhausting, and most tedious, of all work… but when you are filled with the Holy Spirit… then the ministry of Jesus just flows out of you. —Corrie Ten Boom

what about baptisms… by HS into family… by leader into water… by Jesus into HS… don’t let ignorance or unbelief rob you of these blessings… pray…
Hos 4:6… “people are destroyed by lack of knowledge… rejected knowledge…”
Eph 4:18… “excluded from life because of ignorance… and hardness of heart…”
