It's Harvest Time | Ps Rob Buckingham
February 17, 2023

Last year, we focused on strengthening the things that remain (Rev. 3:2). In 2023, we have turned a corner and we’re seeing an increase in fruitiness in every Bayside Church ministry…

Text: Galatians 6:6-10

The one who receives instruction in the word should share all good things with their instructor.

7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A person reaps what they sow. 8 Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

Sowing includes financial giving but it is not limited to it.

Galatians‬ ‭6‬:‭9‬ ‭TPT‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬, “Don’t allow yourselves to be weary in planting good seeds, for the season of reaping the wonderful harvest you’ve planted is coming!” ‬‬‬‬‬‬

I’m encouraged by the Word and the Holy Spirit to know that Bayside Church is entering a season of reaping a wonderful harvest.

And so, don’t allow yourselves to be weary in planting good seeds.

We can all get weary (that’s why Paul wrote this). So, when we feel weary we can encourage ourselves with this wonderful promise:

for the season of reaping the wonderful harvest you’ve planted is coming!”

Paul wrote something similar to the Corinthian church:

1 Corinthians 15:58, “Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain.

Know = by deep conviction (heart not head)

Labour = to cut. I.e. to feel drained. It literally means “working to the point of exhaustion.”

I.e. when you serve the Lord, you are not wasting your time. It’s not for nothing. Your labour in the Lord is not in vain, for the season of reaping the wonderful harvest you’ve planted is coming!”

Hebrews 6:10-12, “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, in order to make your hope sure. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.

2 Tim 1:12 - “For this reason I also suffer these things, but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day.

Your work for God will never be forgotten and the reward can never be equalled.

Discussion Questions

  1. The one who receives instruction in the word should share all good things with their instructor. Share occasions when you’ve given “good things” with your instructor in the Word. What was the response? How could you do this more often and still keep it meaningful?

  2. Discuss: “Sowing includes financial giving but it is not limited to it.” What other ways can you sow good seed?

  3. Spend time reading, reflecting, and discussing 1 Corinthians 15:58; Hebrews 6:10-12; and 2 Tim 1:12.

  4. God doesn’t compel his people to work to the point of weariness, but sometimes church leaders have been guilty of requiring this. What can we do to ensure our acts of service don’t lead to exhaustion or burnout? (Feel free to share personal experiences with each).

  5. Discuss: “Your work for God will never be forgotten and the reward can never be equalled.”

  6. Spend some time praying into this prophetic word for Bayside Church: “the season of reaping the wonderful harvest you’ve planted is coming!” ‬‬‬
