One Accord – Part 2
Elder Cindy Cain
When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. [2] And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. [3] And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. [4] And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. [5] Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. [6] And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. [7] And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? [8] And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? [9] Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, [10] Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, [11] both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.” —Acts 2:1-11 ESV
Being on One Accords calls for there to be a unity. Unity in either completing an assignment or task or unity of heart and mind.
Joshuah 9:2; Psalm 83:5; Zephaniah 3:9
Acts 15:22-25; Acts 4:32: Romans 15:6
To have oneness with each other, we must first have oneness with Christ. And to have oneness with Christ you must have the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:1-11 ESV
He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. [8] But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” [9] And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. [10] And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, [11] and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” —Acts 1:7-11 ESV
And when they had entered, they went up to the upper room, where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot and Judas the son of James. [14] All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.
We need to be connected to other believers while we wait on the promises of God. —Acts 1:13-14 ESV
Now the whole earth had one language and the same words. [2] And as people migrated from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. [3] And they said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar. [4] Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth.” [5] And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of man had built. [6] And the LORD said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them. [7] Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so that they may not understand one another’s speech.” [8] So the LORD dispersed them from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city. [9] Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth. And from there the LORD dispersed them over the face of all the earth. —Genesis 11:1-9 ESV
What looks like unity can actually be full of confusion!!! The true test is if God is at the center!
The Holy Spirit is the gift that comes from unity. Both collectively and individually.
What does the Holy Spirit offer:
• He makes the power of Jesus known.
• He makes us more like Jesus.
• He helps us understand the bible.
• He empowers us for service.
• He helps us to pray. (Romans 8:26)
• The Holy Spirit guides.
Two ways the enemy will distract us from what God has called us to do.
1) We will spend our time trying to replicate what others have or are doing without having the Holy Spirit.
2) We will be sacred to do what God is calling us to do because we have seen others fail.
