LifeGroup Notes
BIG IDEA
We know that by claiming Christ as our Lord and Savior we are brought into new life in Him. We are “born again” into new life and we are freed from the sins that bound our old self. This week during Life Group study we will dive deeper into the promised resurrection of new life in Christ and how we have died to sin.
Passages we’ll review:
Romans 6: 5-10

READ
Read Romans 6: 5-10
The word certainly, in verse 5, leaves no doubt that in acceptance of Jesus we will be united with Him! In this short statement alone we can give all glory to God for His love for us and the sacrifice of Jesus! And not only are we united with Christ in this life, but the free gift we receive is eternal life with God!
We can also be certain, as believers in Christ, that He’s the perfect example to follow and that there is nothing that can overcome Jesus. As mentioned in the video, Jesus states in Matthew 28:18, “All authority has been given to him in heaven and on earth”. This statement comes AFTER the death of Christ on the cross, when Jesus is resurrected, while eleven disciples see Him on a mountain in Galiee.
How does this connection between the certainty mentioned in Romans 5 and the Great Commission reflect the authority in Jesus’ Words and increase our faith in Him ?
Another truth we have in the resurrection of Christ is that through him we are dead to our sin. The power of sin over us died with Christ on the cross. Our “old self”, our sin nature, died once and for all, so we are freed from its power. In verse six Paul’s reference to “sin’s dominion over the body” refers to our rebellious sin- loving nature inherited from Adam.
Furthermore, we are called in the Gospel of Luke;
23 … “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” (Luke 9:23)
How does this command from Christ help us daily to avoid our sin nature and seek after Him?
Because of Christ’s death and resurrection, his followers never have to fear death. That assurance frees us to enjoy fellowship with him and to do God’s will. This freedom will impact our everyday activities from work, worship, play, Bible study, quiet time, and when caring for others. When you know you don’t have to fear death, you will experience a new vigor in life.
How do you go through life differently today, as a follower of Jesus, than you did before you accepted Him as Lord and Savior?
LET’S PRAY
We should be challenged through this study to pray more frequently. We should give thanks to Jesus Christ for His ultimate sacrifice, that through Him we are dead to our sins. We should pray to God for wisdom to avoid our sin nature and follow after Chirst. We should pray during our times of weakness for the Holy Spirit to guide us through trials and sinful circumstances. Throughout your week take additional time daily to list out hurdles or traps that you need help getting through, and also give thanks to Jesus for a new life in Him!
