What is a parable?
DEFINITION = An fictional story anyone can understand, which teaches a deeper truth about how God’s kingdom works.
MAIN IDEA:
Jesus was asked “who is my neighbor?” His response was “go be a neighbor.”
It’s less about the who and more about what you do.
Luke 10:25-37
The Parable of the Good Samaritan
25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 ”What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?” 27 He answered: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ (Deut. 6:5); and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’(Lev. 19:18) 28 ”You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.” 29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” 30 In reply Jesus said: “A man (probably a Jew) was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man (his fellow Jew), he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two silver coins[e] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’ 36 ”Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” 37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.” NIV

It is in the little interruptions that God speaks to us.
1. WHO IS OUR NEIGHBOR? According to the parable, it is anyone with a genuine need in front of us that is within our power to help.
2. WHAT IS A GENIUNE NEED? According to the parable, it is a need that God allows you to see, even if others do not.
THE KEY FOR ME:
God has allowed me to see them.
Not everyone needs help the same…and not all help is financial.
More often than not…it is just being Jesus to them.
3. WHEN SHOULD WE HELP? According to the parable, when we see a genuine need and it is in our power to help, we should help!
Proverbs 3:28
If you can help your neighbor now, don’t say, “Come back tomorrow, and then I’ll help you.” NLT
3 lifestyle changes that help you be a good neighbor:
1. Ask Jesus regularly to help you see people the way He sees people…especially when they are different than you.
2. Spend time regularly praying for people you know AND people you meet in passing.
3. When it is in your power to help…take the time needed to help.

CHALLENGE QUESTIONS:
