Rev. Darrell Huffman

At Trailhead, we believe that church is not just about growing in God’s Word but doing so in community. We have designed this study guide to help you follow along with Sunday’s message. Study the scriptures, take notes, and then reinforce what you learned by answering a few questions. Ask others to join you in discussion, whether it be with your family or online with your Trailhead study group. Let’s have church!

Proverbs 13:22 (AMP)
A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children,
And the wealth of the sinner is stored up for [the hands of] the righteous.

Proverbs 13:22 (MSG)
A good life gets passed on to the grandchildren;
ill-gotten wealth ends up with good people.

Ephesians 5:31-33 (NKJV)
31 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32 This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

Ephesians 29-33 (MSG)
26 Jesus also said, “The Kingdom of God is like a farmer who scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, while he’s asleep or awake, the seed sprouts and grows, but he does not understand how it happens. 28 The earth produces the crops on its own. First a leaf blade pushes through, then the heads of wheat are formed, and finally the grain ripens. 29 And as soon as the grain is ready, the farmer comes and harvests it with a sickle, for the harvest time has come.”

Ephesians 6:1-4 (NKJV)
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: 3 “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.” 4 And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

Proverbs 22:6 (GNB)
Teach children how they should live, and they will remember it all their life.

Discussion Questions

1) Why is it so important to have the intention of leaving an inheritiance of moral stability and goodness for our children? Why is it also important to teach them to live with that same intent?

2) The role of mother and father never ends but just looks different. How do you think the role of parents should look during the different stages of your children (or furture children’s) lives?

3) Rev. Huffman shared 3 different areas of traning when it come to children. What’s the importance of each area? What are some consequences of ignorning one or more area(s)?
