If last week was the WHAT and the WHERE, today is the HOW. Prayer is the HOW.

Hosea 10:12 > “Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and showers His righteousness on you.” It is time to seek the Lord!

Revelation 4:1 > “After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, “Come up here, and I will show you things…”

Revelation 1:9-11 > “I, John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet, saying, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last,” and, “What you see, write in a book and send it…”

There is a deeper place we can go in Him where we develop medicine that heals hearts, relationships, families, finances, businesses, and nations. Ezekiel 47:12 talks about it: “Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear fruit because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing.”
Amazing Things Happen When We Go Deeper > Ezekiel 47:1-14

So, how do we go deeper?

The Basics Of Fasting…

1) Fasting Is

Your Heart
Matthew 9:14-15:
“14 Then John’s disciples came and asked him, “How is it that we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?” 15 Jesus answered, “How can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while he is with them? The time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; then they will fast.”
John 14:16-17; John 16:6-15. Fasting does not “earn” us more of the Holy Spirit, but simply puts us in a position to receive more of Him – Hebrews 11:6; Matthew 5:6; Luke 11:9-13.

2) Fasting Is

Your Time
What exactly is fasting? Fasting is simply a time set apart to seek the Lord Himself, to seek His face! Something happens when you fast that helps you seek the Lord in a greater way than normal.
In a fast, we’re not so much saying no to food, but saying yes to Jesus and to more time with Him. We are taking our attention off of the things of this world that so seem to distract us and putting our full attention on the Lord. It sends a signal to God that we are serious enough about Him to abstain from food just so we can seek Him.

Fasting:
A. SHARPENS YOUR

- I Cor.7:3-5.
B. TRIGGERS - Joel 2:12-14; Psalms 66:18
C. ACTIVATES INTERCESSION – 2 Chronicles 20:1-4; James 5:16
D. BRINGS – 2 Chronicles 20:1-17.
E. HUMBLES YOUR HEART - I Kings 21:25-29; Psalm 35:13.
F. PURIFIES YOUR MOTIVES – Matthew 6:16-18.
G. BRINGS A “WARRING” AND A “ ” - 2 Chronicles 20; Joel 1-3. Fasting begins with God’s people warring and ends with them soaring! In a fast, we often “war” or wrestle with:
- Our Flesh - Luke 4:1-14
- Our Mind - Psalm 35:13
- Our Emotions - Psalm 35:13
- Sins and Habits - I Samuel 7:2-13
- God – Genesis 32:22-32
- Spiritual Forces of Evil – Colossians 4:12; Ephesians 6:10-18
After the warring often comes the soaring!

3) Fasting Is Driving Your

Fasting drives your heavenly rewards!
Hebrews 11:6 – “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

Rewards Of Fasting:
The Release Of The Miraculous – Mark 9:29 >> “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.” “EXTRA” levels of trauma and addiction and depression and anxiety need “EXTRA” efforts to break…
- The Release Of

- Acts 13:1-4.
- The Release Of The - Luke 2:36-38.
- Strength For Leaders - Acts 14:21-23.
- Deeper Intimacy With God - Acts 13:1,2 - “While they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said…”
- Deeper Awareness Of God’s - Acts 13:1,2. As they fasted, God spoke.
- Dreams & Visions Are Birthed - Acts 13:1-4. The atmosphere of prayer and fasting is a womb where the Holy Spirit births visions in our hearts, giving us direction.

Practical Aspects Of Fasting…

1. BEFORE YOU FAST - Physical preparation makes the drastic change in your eating routine a little easier so that you can turn your full attention to the Lord in prayer:
• Don’t rush into a fast,
• Prepare your body by eating smaller meals before starting a fast, and avoid high fat and sugary foods, as well as tea or coffee with caffeine.
~ To fail to prepare is to prepare to fail. Prepare! ~

2. WHILE YOU FAST - While you fast you need to know certain things that will help:
• Limit your activity,
• Avoid taking drugs besides prescriptions; talk to your doctor,
• Rest as much as you can,
• Set aside extra times for prayer and the Word, in the morning before work, at lunch take a prayer walk, in the evening try to set aside time to seek His face, and come to prayer,
• Be ready for temporary mental discomforts such as hunger pains, dizziness, headaches, even feeling nauseous. You may be irritable, cranky, anxious,
• Depending on your fast, you may want to plan to take in juice, such as apple or white grape or vegetable. This gives you some needed vitamins and energy. Stay away from high acid juices. Herbal tea with a drop of honey is good.

3. AFTER YOU FAST - When we break a fast all we want to do is eat and eat. But that is really bad for your system and can bring it into a state of shock. The best thing to do is to break your fast gradually, with a few small and light snacks for the first few days, staying away from heavy meat. Try soup or fruit or vegetables. This will insure good health and keep you in control of your appetite, and not have you bound by it.
