Philippians 2:5-7 (ESV)
5 “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.

Going Deeper

Review Philippians 2:1-11

1) “When God made man, He did not make him selfish”, what main Scripture, if any, do you believe supports this point? Explain your choice.

2) “Knowledge alone cannot produce a Christ-like character”. Discuss this statement using Scripture references.

3) The preacher explained that Philippians 2:7, which talks about Jesus taking the form of a servant, does not mean “an exchange”. Is this your understanding of the text? Explain why or why not.

4) Discuss the following:
a. Christology
b. the Hypostatic Union

5) Do you believe that there is a difference between Jesus being Saviour and Him being Lord? Explain.

Assess Your Life

1) How committed are you to being like Christ?

a) As a young believer, I want to be committed but honestly find it quite difficult

b) I understand the importance of being like Christ but I am not yet fully committed.

c) I want to be like Christ and have made a conscious commitment to do so.

d) I am committed to being like Christ, and I am trying to be intentional about my choices

e) I am completely committed to being like Christ and therefore use the principles of daily studying and application of the Word together with prayer to do so.


2) What are some of the practices that you can cultivate to help you be like Christ?
