RESTORE MY SOUL: WEEK 4 COMMUNION
Communion is opportunity to remember God’s Goodness and Faithfulness to us
“Do this in remembrance of me.” - 1 Corinthians 11:24
We have a PERSONAL HISTORY of God’s Goodness and Faithfulness to us.
Communion is opportunity to realign our souls
Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. - 1 Corinthians 11:28
Without regular realigning we will find ourselves way off track.
We can EXPECT forgiveness, and cleansing of our souls
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” - 1 John 1:9
We can have our Joy restored as we are freed from guilt, accusations and shame
“Restore to me the joy of your salvation” - Psalm 51:12
“Who will accuse God’s chosen people?
God himself declares them not guilty!” - Romans 8:33 GNT
“You prepare a table in the presence of my enemies” - Psalm 23
Communion stirs our souls with expectancy for His Coming Kingdom
“You proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” - 1 Corinthians 11:26
QUESTIONS TO PONDER
1) What would your life most likely be like if Jesus had not rescued you? Spend some time remembering His Mercy and Grace and thanking Him.
2) I believe that one of the bravest things David ever did was not confronting Goliath, but confronting his own soul when he said “Search me, O God, and know my heart; … See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalm 139:23-24 If you did this, what do you think God would point out to you? Is there any fear holding you back from doing this?
3) Do you carry guilt or shame for anything in your life? Bring it to Jesus for forgiveness once and for all, so the “enemy of our souls” can be silenced from accusing you. Remember, Who will accuse God’s chosen people? God himself declares them not guilty! Romans 8:33 GNT
4) What are you looking forward to on the New Earth when Jesus comes to establish His Kingdom forever? What does the thought of an eternity do for your soul?
ACTIVITY
Our souls get restored when we spend time “examining ourselves” and asking God to reveal the sins and ungodly character that can stain our daily lives. One way to do this is to take a moment of reflection before bed. Pause and go through your day, reflecting on your thoughts, words, behaviors and interactions with others. Is there anything that God highlights as something He wants to change in you? Spend sometime asking for (and receiving) forgiveness. Ask Him to make you more instantly aware if you find yourself slipping into your old ways in the days ahead.
