Sermon Notes: A Word to the Wise Week 3: Wisdom with Words

[Pro 15:4 ESV] 4 A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.
[Pro 12:18 ESV] 18 There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
[Mat 12:36-37 ESV] 36 I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, 37 for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Some Wisdom with Words
1. Gaurd Your Heart Against Toxic Words
[Pro 4:20, 23 ESV] 20 My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. … 23 Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.

Separating from Negative friends…

[1Co 15:33 ESV] 33 Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”
2. Speak life-giving words to others every chance you get.
[Eph 4:29 ESV] 29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

When you think something good, say it.

3. Speak Life-Giving Words to Yourslef and to your circumstances.
[1Sa 30:6 ESV] 6 And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in soul, each for his sons and daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.
[Mar 11:23 ESV] 23 Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him.
[1Jo 5:14 ESV] 14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.

4. Sometime No Words are Needed
[Job 2:11-13 ESV] 11 Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this evil that had come upon him, they came each from his own place, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. They made an appointment together to come to show him sympathy and comfort him. 12 And when they saw him from a distance, they did not recognize him. And they raised their voices and wept, and they tore their robes and sprinkled dust on their heads toward heaven. 13 And they sat with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that his suffering was very great.

Words are powerful and there maybe something you need to say to someone…
