Faithful-firm in adherence to promises or in observance of duty; steadfast in affection or allegiance
Unfaithful-not faithful; not adhering to vows, allegiance or duty; disloyal
1) THE HEART OF THE MATTER
The heart of the matter is that discipleship involves faithfulness, and faithfulness involves our hearts!
Mark 10:1-12
And he left there and went to the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan, and crowds gathered to him again. And again, as was his custom, he taught them.
And Pharisees came up and in order to test him asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” He answered them, “What did Moses command you?” They said, “Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of divorce and to send her away.” And Jesus said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”
And in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter. And he said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her, and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”
2) THE HARDENED HEART
a) Mark 10:5
And Jesus said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment.
b) Sin has one aim-to harden our hearts towards God and a faithful relationship to Him a little more every day
c) Confession softens our hearts!
3) THE HEART OF MARRIAGE
a) Mark 10:6-9
But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife,and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.
b) Marriage has a compounded investment of our heart.
c) The heart of marriage is that the two hearts become one heart-forever faithful to each other!
4) JESUS’ HEART FOR US
a) Mark 10:10-12
And in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter. And he said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her, and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”
b) Romans 7:15
For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.
c) Ephesians 2:4-5
But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—
d)We can only be faithful because of the faithfulness of Jesus Christ
Lamentations 3:22-24
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”
