The Lion and the Lamb Part 2 - The Lamb That Was Slain

April 2, 2023

But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed. And I looked, and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as though it had been slain. —Revelation 5:5-6

  • Jesus was the Lamb in his sacrificial death, and the Lion in His victorious resurrection.

1. Palm Sunday has a profound connection to lambs.

  • Palm Sunday day was prophesied centuries before to day. (Daniel 9:25-26)
  • The

Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday was prophesied by Zachariah. > Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem!

Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation,
Lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey. —Zachariah 9:9

  • This was the day known as Lamb

    Day.

3 Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying: ‘On the tenth of this month every man shall take for himself a lamb, according to the house of his father, a lamb for a household.

6 Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight. —Exodus 12:3,6

2. We are invited to behold the Lamb of God.

“Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! —John 1:29

A. Behold the Lamb in Genesis 22.

7 But Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!”
And he said, “Here I am, my son.”
Then he said, “Look, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?”
8 And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide Himself the lamb for a burnt offering.” So the two of them went together.
In this statement, we see a prophetic declaration. —Genesis 22:7-8

  • Not only did God provide the lamb, but God provided as the Lamb.

13 Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. 14 And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.” —Genesis 22:13-14

B. Behold the power of the of the lamb in Exodus 12.

  • With the lion, we see the power of His

. With the Lamb, we see the power of His .

  • Exodus 12:3 - a lamb for a house. “you and your house shall be saved”.

  • Exodus 12:7 - And they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat it.

11 And thus you shall eat it: with a belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. So you shall eat it in haste. It is the Lord’s Passover.
12 ‘For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord.
13 Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. —Exodus 12:11-13

There are at least three benefits provided by the blood of the Lamb in Exodus 12:
- The blood protected them.
- The blood delivered them.
- The blood

them from their passed Egyptian history.

22 And you shall take a bunch of hyssop, dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two doorposts with the blood that is in the basin. And none of you shall go out of the door of his house until morning. —Exodus 12:22

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. —Psalm 51:7

  • Exodus 12:13 - He said the blood shall be a token or a sign for you. A token is a small part, a sign, or a symbol of something far greater.

  • Rev. 13:8 Jesus is the “Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.”

He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes. —Psalm 105:37

C. Behold Jesus Christ, Yeshua Hamashiach, our passover Lamb.

  • He was inspected by Pilate and found . “I find no fault in this man”
  • He answered Herod nothing, as prophesied by Isaiah (53:&)
  • Not one of his was broken. John 19:36, Exodus 12:46

Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us. —1 Corinthians 5:7

  • Don’t keep the old leaven in your house, in your temple. Don’t keep vestiges of that old life of sin around. For Christ, our passover Lamb, was sacrificed for us for FULL FREEDOM.

knowing that you were not redeemed wit corruptible things…but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. —1 Peter 1:18-19

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb. —Revelation 12:11
