Scotty said that the Christian life equals a spirit-filled life and shared statements about who the Holy Spirit is. You can discuss each statement using the questions below or pick the statements and questions that are most relevant to your group.
Statement 1: The Holy Spirit is a person. Not a ghost or a voice. Not an “it” but a “He.”
What does that fact tell you about Holy Spirit and His characteristics? How does it change the way you relate to Him?
Statement 2: The Holy Spirit is eternal.
Statement 3: The Holy Spirit is God.
Why is it important for us to know that the Holy Spirit is God and that He is eternal? How does that affect the way you think about Him?
Statement 4: The Holy Spirit is God’s presence.
Jesus said, “But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.” John 16:7
Why is it better for us that Jesus went away and sent the Holy Spirit?
Statement 5: The Holy Spirit is powerful.
Why should it matter to us that the Holy Spirit is powerful? How can that affect your life?
Statement 6: The Holy Spirit is our advocate.
What does it mean to be an advocate? How can it comfort us to know that the Holy Spirit is our advocate?
Statement 7: The Holy Spirit gives us life.
In what ways does the Holy Spirit give us life? What does that mean for us as individuals? As a church? As a culture?
Statement 8: The Holy Spirit is available to you.
Do you have to do anything special to get the Holy Spirit?
What does it mean to live a Spirit-filled life? How do you do that?

Discuss Stan’s recommendation to practice the spiritual discipline of silence and solitude. How can that improve your relationship with the Holy Spirit? How can you work silence and solitude into your schedule this week?
