Man was created to have fellowship with God and even though sin broke that fellowship, God still desires a relationship with us. That’s why He sent Jesus. Through Jesus, fellowship with God is re-established so we can talk with Him and He talks with us.
How God speaks to us:
The Bible (2 Timothy 3:16)
This is by far the most predominant way God speaks to us.
You have to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit when you’re reading the Bible if you want to hear God speaking because it’s His job to GUIDE you as you read the Bible. (John 16:12)Rhema: God speaking to us through a particular verse or phrase in the Bible.
Sermons (Ephesians 4:12)
A Pastor’s responsibility is to equip us for our calling and help us become spiritually strong. (Ephesians 4:12) The Pastor should be speaking words that the Holy Spirit gives him to explain spiritual truths to us. (1 Corinthians 2:13)Through godly friends and family members (Proverbs 12:26)
By whispering into our spiritual ear (Job 33:14-16)
This is what we want to know: Does God speak to us directly and how do we know it’s God? This passage in Job is talking about the small, still, voice of God speaking to our inner man.
There’s a big difference between FEELING like God’s telling you to do something and God actually telling you to do something. Sometimes we feel impressed to do something and it’s God making us feel that way, but He normally does that when He’s guiding us, and not when He’s trying to speak to us.
Hone: to sharpen, or to refine and perfect over a period of time.
You have to hone your ability to hear the voice of God.
How do you hone your ability to hear God’s voice?
- By reading God’s word and meditating on it.
- By having a consistent, quality prayer time with God.
