Senior Sunday 2020 Message
Time Is Running Out…
Ephesians 5:15-17
*15)*See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, *16)*redeeming the time, because the days are evil. *17)*Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
Hey Seniors, I want to remind you that time is fleeting, the clock is ticking, or TIME IS RUNNING OUT. However you choose to say it time is passing quickly. When you and I were born there was a time put up on the play clock of life and from the moment you took that first breathe, time is running, and you and I are getting closer and closer to hearing the final buzzer.
Paul challenged the believers in Ephesus with that reality in Ephesians chapter 5. Turn with me to the book of Ephesians 5:15-17 this morning.
In this passage I think that we see a message that is perfect for you graduating seniors and for all of us that are watching this morning.
If you have your Bible get a pencil or a pen out and circle or underline these words in your Bible, if you are using your bible app just highlight the words: “look or see – making or redeeming – do not (or “don’t”) – understand.” I want to hit these 4 words from these 3 verses, & then make the application:
1.) WE SEE THAT WE NEED TO BE
. v. 15
Paul is telling the believers to “pay attention; understand; think about” how to walk & live for the Lord in a wise way. The KJV – “See that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise.” Walking circumspectly means that you are walking w/ preciseness & accuracy(careful to consider all circumstances) , not carelessly & foolishly.
2.) MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR
– v. 16
Life is Short!…Redeem the time that God has given you on this earth. “Make the most of your time that you have on this earth.”Life is short and time is fleeting. Live a life of faith! Live for the Lord! Give your life away! Live w/ an outward focus, not an inward focus! John Piper wrote “Desire that your life count for something great! Long for your life to have eternal significance. Want this! Don’t coast through life without a passion.”
3.) Don’t Live Like A
& Act Thoughtlessly. V.17a
The truth is that we all know people who live like a fool and we know the destruction that follows them. We’ve seen it, heard it, maybe we’ve even felt it. We know the destruction that follows them in their families and in their relationships.
So we’ve looked at the see- We want to look carefully at how we walk, the Make - we want to make the best use of our time, because time is running out, the Don’t - Don’t love like a fool, and now we come to the last word - Understand.
4.) We must
God’s will for our life. v. 17b
Have clear insight into the will of God. So many people ask, “What is God’s will for my life?” Wrong question. I think the question we should be asking is, “What is God’s will – PERIOD?” God has given you a mind & He expects you to use it to know & understand His will as you read & study His Word & as you pray. And He’s given you a heart to obey His will. Obedience to Him IS His will for you & me.
#1- Look at your life RIGHT NOW , make sure you are walking w/ preciseness & accuracy, not carelessly & foolishly b/c the time is running out.
#2- Make the most of this time that we have RIGHT NOW in this worship service and every day that you have on this earth b/c time is running out.
#3- Don’t live like a fool and act thoughtlessly because time is running out.
#4 - Understand what God’s will is for you RIGHT NOW b/c time is running out.
