23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. 24 Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. Romans 3:23–24 (NLT)
1.- We don’t become acceptable to God by
“Abraham was, humanly speaking, the founder of our Jewish nation. What did he discover about being made right with God? 2 If his good deeds had made him acceptable to God, he would have had something to boast about. But that was not God’s way.” Romans 4:1–2 (NLT)
Two key words:
•
“Abraham believed God,”
•
“it was counted to him as righteousness.”
2.- We don’t become acceptable to God by
“ Is this blessing then only for the circumcised, or also for the uncircumcised? For we say that faith was counted to Abraham as righteousness.” Romans 4:9 (ESV)
“Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness” Genesis 15:6
3.- We don’t become acceptable to God by
“Clearly, God’s promise to give the whole earth to Abraham and his descendants was based not on his obedience to God’s law, but on a right relationship with God that comes by faith.” Romans 4:13 (NLT)
14 “For if it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void. 15 For the law brings wrath, but where there is no law there is no transgression.” Romans 4:14-15 (NLT)
“This is what I mean: the law, which came 430 years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to make the promise void.” Galatians 3:17 (ESV)
4.- There is only one way we can be acceptable to God.
Why God established the plan of believing and trusting to be acceptable to Him.
• To demonstrate God’s
“Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the law but also to those who have the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.” Romans 4:16 (NIV)
• To demonstrate God’s
17 That is what the Scriptures mean when God told him, “I have made you the father of many nations.” This happened because Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead back to life and who creates new things out of nothing. Romans 4:17 (NLT)
