Eternity Is Now
Eternity Is Now - Eternal life is not something we receive when we die; it’s something we choose to live in today, and those who believe in and follow Jesus will live with Him forever.
Big Question: What does eternal life provide for us today?
Main Scripture: John 4:13-14
Jesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. 14But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” —John 4:13-14
Eternal life is not like a stagnant pool, but like an ever-living fountain, that flows at all seasons of the year. Amid all changes of external circumstance - in hunger and thirst, prosperity and adversity, life, persecution, contempt, or death - it still lives on, and refreshes the soul. It is not temporary, like the supply of our natural wants; it is not changing in its nature. It is eternal in its supply, and will continue to live on forever. —Albert Barnes
1.) It can comfort us in our hurting.
The Christian has a never-failing source of comfort adapted to all times and circumstances. —Albert Barnes
He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. —2 Corinthians 1:4
2.) It can quench the longings of our heart.
Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end. —Ecclesiastes 3:11
“Is anyone thirsty? Come and drink— even if you have no money! Come, take your choice of wine or milk—it’s all free! 2Why spend your money on food that does not give you strength? Why pay for food that does you no good? Listen to me, and you will eat what is good. You will enjoy the finest food. —Isaiah 55:1-2
3.) It should convince us to share it with the world.
Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! 38Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, “Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.” —John 7:37b-38
