Where God is Leading

We hope that time helped. If you are still trying to figure out where your perspective is, we encourage you to go back. Draw near to your heavenly Dad and allow the Spirit to unveil the answers to your heart. Remember: he sees you right where you are and wants to lead you to your true heart.

But if you are ready, let’s explore our destination or where we are going. God loves us where we are, but too much to leave us there. He has more for us, yet, we don’t always know what that “more” is. In life, there is a way in which things work. If you drop a pencil, it will fall because of gravity. If you fall off the roof, it’s going to hurt. It’s common sense, but only because you have experienced knowledge of it (hopefully not falling off the roof, but you’ve fallen from a height).

So, what is “common sense” in life with God? How does walking with him work? In his Greater Story, life differs from our imposter stories, and if we don’t calibrate our minds and hearts to the way things work in his story, we’ll never live as sons and become real men.

Introduction to Waking the Dead

Waking the Dead walks you through a lot of “common sense” life with God, focusing on this:

There is more happening than what you can see.

Eldredge fleshes this out by enhancing our sight of the spiritual world and the Greater Story authored by the Trinity. He gives us the truths we’ll need to renew and calibrate our perspective. These truths will change us only if we draw close to the Trinity. Then, each truth will root deep, and the fruit will be unspeakable.

Before I (Chris) read this book, I saw most of my life through a keyhole. I filtered problems, struggles, failures, relationships, and wounds through my narrow sight, leading to frustration more often than not. As a result, I never learned about my heart or the hearts of others. Waking the Dead baptized my perspective. Spiritual warfare became real. Wounds fell from their shadows. Imposters screamed from exposure, and I saw the truth of the world around me in God’s presence. I am forever changed.

As you read, press into your finite perspective with the Trinity. Allow them to open the door. Choose to see through their eyes. Begin renewing your mind and heart to their Greater Story.
