Colossians: Day 13
Verses 3:12-14
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
Questions:
1. In these verses we are called to extend compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, and love - how has Jesus extended these to you in your life?
2. How and to whom are you going to extend compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, and love this week? What is your motivation to do this?
Interpretation:
Paul calls the Colossians to a set-apart lifestyle that is consistent with their new identity. Believers have been chosen by God and stand before Him as His beloved holy ones. We are to live up to what we are in Christ. One should not merely avoid sin, one must take the initiative to put on virtue, actively replacing bad behavior with behaviors that benefit people who are chosen and loved by God.
