what about The Cross… three things…
Mark 16:6-7… “He has risen… He is not here… He is going ahead of you…”
Luke 24:5-6… “remember what He told you… He is not here… He is risen…”
1Cor 15:17… “if Christ has not been raised… faith is worthless… still in sins…”
no invitation to stay, go and follow where He is leading, don’t worship the tomb… Jesus is in control, not death, all part of God’s unchanging plan… most beautiful verse about The Resurrection (flip it)… because He lives, so can you… pray…
1Cor 15:17… “if Christ is risen… faith is valuable… no longer in your sins…”
at The Cross… Jesus took sins of whole world… God poured out wrath on Him, not us… divine exchange… to all who would believe and receive His gift…
Rom 3:21-25… “God’s righteousness thru faith in Jesus… to all who believe…”
Rom 5… “have been declared righteous by His blood… life-giving justification for all… receive the overflow of grace and the gift of righteousness… reign in life…”
2Cor 5:17-21… “He became sin… so we might become righteousness of God…”
Eph 2:11-21… “you were once far away… brought near by blood… thru cross…”
Col 1:15-25… “reconcile back to Himself by making peace thru blood of cross…”
that’s not good news… that’s great news… too good to be true news… this Lamb of God has taken away the sins of the world… including yours… they’re gone…
after Jesus died… God demonstrated His pleasure (acceptance) of what Jesus did by The Resurrection… if Jesus is still in grave… no assurance our sins are gone…
Eph 1:5-9 NLT… “God’s unchanging plan has been to adopt us into His own family thru Jesus… this gave Him great pleasure… He is so rich in kindness that He purchased our freedom thru the blood of His Son… our sins are forgiven… God’s plan is revealed… a plan centered on Christ… to His good pleasure…”
resurrection didn’t take away sins… the cross did… but resurrection is proof the cross worked… the resurrection is your receipt… forgiveness is yours…
1Cor 15:17… “if Christ is risen… faith is valuable… no longer in your sins…”
Heb 8… “this is NC… forgive wrongdoing… never again remember sins…”
Heb 9… “appeared one time… for the removal of sin by sacrifice of Himself…”
Heb 10… “one sacrifice for sins forever… no longer an offering for sin…”
all world sees in front of it is death… that’s why they’re so scared of it… you have already died… death is not in front of you, resurrection is…
Rom 6:1-14… “died with Christ… set free from power of sin… alive to God…”
Eph 2:4-5… “but God… made us alive in Christ… though we were dead to sin…”
Col 3:3… “raised with Christ… you died… your life is now hidden with Christ…”
Heb 2:14-15… “thru His death… free those in slavery all their lives by fear of death…”
resurrection might be proof the cross worked… might be proof that we’re no longer in our sins… but what proof is there of the resurrection…
Empty Tomb – Luke 24:3… “they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus…”
Body was stolen. Romans had no motive. Jews had less. If they had body, preaching about it would have stopped. Disciples couldn’t break seal and move 2-ton stone guarded by soldiers. Maybe Jesus just asleep, woke up, removed stone, beat up solders, vanished from history.
Church exploded – Acts 2:41… “about 3000 people were added to the church…”
Very place He was crucified experienced revival… wouldn’t happen if resurrection not true.
Appeared to hundreds – 1Cor 15:6… “He appeared to over 500 brothers at one time…”
Some still alive when this was written… if it wasn’t true… they would have exposed the lie.
Disciples transformed – Acts 4:2… “proclaiming… Jesus’ resurrection from dead…”
Seriously think they went from hiding, fearful cowards to bold and confident witnesses… willing to be martyred if the resurrection wasn’t true… almost impossible to die for a lie.
Jewish worship changed – Acts 20:7… “on the first day of the week, we assembled…”
Centuries of tradition changed overnight… last day Sabbath to 1st day worship… stopped animal sacrifices because the Perfect Lamb of God had been sacrificed.
Contemporary documents – Thallus the Samaritan; Suetonius; Tacitus; Pliny; Josephus were historians, not believers… all refer to Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection.
more than enough historical proof The Resurrection was real… it is proof that you are no longer in your sins… but it is also the basis for your peace…
Mark 16:9-13… “Mary went to disciples… who were mourning and weeping… and told them He was alive and she had seen Him… they did not believe her…”
disciples in fear and unbelief… in short, they were in sin… what would Jesus do…
John 20:19-20… “disciples together with doors locked because of fear… then He stood among them and said… peace to you… having said this… He showed them His hands and His side… so the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord…”
John 20:26-31… “eight days later… Jesus appeared… peace be with you, put your finger here, see my hands, put your hand into wound in my side, don’t be an unbeliever, believe… Thomas exclaimed, my Lord and my God… blessed are those who haven’t seen Me and believe anyway… by believing you will have life…”
eirene… peace, security, safety, prosperity; fearing nothing from God…
in midst of fear and unbelief… in midst of sin… in midst of gsc… He brings them peace… what was basis for that peace… His resurrected body (hands and side)…
when we mess up… when devil reminds us of sin… our conscience condemns… precisely when we need a reminder of what Jesus has done for us…
Heb 10… “never again remember their sins… boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus… our guilty consciences sprinkled with His blood to make us clean… hold tightly without wavering… God can be trusted…”
precisely because God is holy… He won’t punish sins a second time…
Heb 9:28… “Christ died once to take away sins… He will come again… not to deal with our sins… but to bring the salvation of those waiting for Him…”
what turns weeping into worship and fear into joy… the finished work of Jesus… both the Cross and the Resurrection… knowing and believing He is risen is not only proof your sins are gone… but it turns fear into peace and brings security, safety, and prosperity… time for us to experience both… pray…
Rom 4:25… “He was delivered up for our sins… raised for our justification…”
Rom 5:1-9… “since we have been declared righteous by His blood… we have peace with God thru Jesus Christ… saved thru Him from wrath…”
1Cor 15… “Christ was raised on 3rd day… Christ is proclaimed raised from the dead… God raised Christ from the dead… Christ has been raised from the dead…”
