I WILL REAP WHAT I SOW (Part 1)

The wicked man earns deceptive wages, but he who sows righteousness will be certain to reaps a reward. —Proverbs 11:18

BIG IDEA: We benefit from God’s law of sowing and reaping by understanding and applying it to our personal lives.

But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless? —James 2:10

1. Everything Starts As A Seed

Then God said, “Let the earth produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit with seed in it, according to their kinds.” —Genesis 1:11

KEY: Everything in life starts as a seed, (a thought, a dream, a passion, etc.). Every seed has exponential potential. Anyone can count the seeds in an apple, but only God knows the number of apples in a seed.

What is a seed?

  • A seed is anything I value, that I give away.

2. Nothing Happens Until The Seed Is Planted

Jesus said, “Unless a grain of wheat is buried in the ground, it cannot reproduce. But if it dies, it will produce much fruit.” —John 12:24

KEY: Jesus is speaking of how tens of millions of people will be saved and get to go to heaven because of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection. He said “I’m going to plant a seed and the seed is going to be my life.” John 12:24 Jesus said, “Unless a grain of wheat is buried in the ground, it cannot reproduce. But if it dies, it will produce much fruit.”

Nothing happens in your life until the seed is planted.

  • Don’t complain about it. Don’t worry about it. Don’t even just pray about it! Go out and start planting seed! Nothing will happen until we plant. We can pray continuously, but it’s not going to produce fruit until we plant.

  • God’s word says – PLANT A SEED!

PRINCIPLE: Whenever I have a need, I plant a seed. Because nothing happens until a seed is planted.

3. Whatever I Sow Is What I Will Reap

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. —Galatians 6:7 (NIV)

KEY: Whatever you sow is what you’re going to get back.

  • Foolish or immature people want to plant one thing and reap something else. It doesn’t happen.

PRINCIPLE: Only plant what you want to harvest. (Generosity, honesty, integrity… etc)

4. I’m Not The Only Sower

I sent you to reap where you didn’t plant; others had already done work before you, and you will gather the harvest —John 4:38

KEY: You are reaping, both good and bad, from what other people are sowing around, beside and before you.

PRINCIPLE: Everything I sow has consequences (good or bad) not just for me but for others as well.

5. I Will Always Reap In A Different Season Than I Sow

For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. …A time to plant (sow) and a time to harvest (reap). —Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

KEY: There is no such thing as instant maturity, instant success or instantaneous wisdom, etc. Fruit ripens slowly. That doesn’t mean that God’s not working! He is, you just can’t see it yet.

PRINCIPLE: While I’m waiting God is working.
