Main Idea:
If we are going to survive and thrive through the challenges of managing money in our marriage, we are going to need unity, purpose, submission, and intimacy.
So how do we survive and thrive through “for richer and for poorer”?
In spite of our differences marriage is about coming together.
The idea is that two things are so bonded together that you can’t tell where one ends and the other begins … We are united.
Genesis 2:24
For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh.
Mark 4:18-19
18 Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; 19 but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.

EVERY TOOL THE BIBLE HAS ON MARRIAGE
1. Unity - You Are Not Two You Are ONE
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
4 Love is patient, love is kind, it is not jealous; love does not brag, it is not arrogant. 5 It does not act disgracefully, it does not seek its own benefit; it is not provoked, does not keep an account of a wrong suffered, 6 it does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7 it [b]keeps every confidence, it believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
2. Purpose - God wants us to “be fruitful and multiply” in our marriages.
Genesis 1:28
God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Jeremiah 29:11
11 For I know the plans that I [f]have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for prosperity and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
3. Submission - If we are going to the fulfill purpose that God has given us we are going to need a plan.
We have to mutually submit to each other.
Ephesians 5:22, 25
22 Wives, subject yourselves to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her
A Simplified Christian Budget Has 3 Things:
1. Tithe - 10%
2. Save/Eliminate Debt - As much as possible until the debt is gone then 10-15% for savings and retirement.
3. Live - The Rest
Great Questions to ask to begin your look at your budget:
1. “What are we spending money on that is not helping you to fulfill your purpose?”
or
2. “What in our budget if we let it go would provide the margin or freedom to fulfill our purpose better?”
4. Intimacy - Handling Money well leads to intimacy
Proverbs 27:17a
“Iron Sharpens Iron”

If we are going to survive our “for richer and for poorer” we are going to need unity, purpose, submission, and intimacy.
Romans 8:31-39
31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?…
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
