Restoring the Church part 3 Living in Grace
03/12/23

Galatians 1:1-5

1 Paul, an apostle—sent not from men nor by a man, but by Jesus Christ and God the
Father, who raised him from the dead— 2 and all the brothers and sisters with me, To the
churches in Galatia: 3 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus
Christ, 4 who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according
to the will of our God and Father, 5 to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Galatians 1:6-7

6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the
grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 which is really no gospel at all.
Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the
gospel of Christ.

Galatians 3:1-3

1 Oh, foolish Galatians! Who has cast an evil spell on you? For the meaning of Jesus
Christ’s death was made as clear to you as if you had seen a picture of his death on the
cross. 2 Let me ask you this one question: Did you receive the Holy Spirit by obeying the
law of Moses? Of course not! You received the Spirit because you believed the message
you heard about Christ. 3 How foolish can you be? After starting your new lives in the
Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort?

Galatians 3:10

10 All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: “Cursed is
everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”

James 2:10

10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of
breaking all of it.

 The law couldn’t be obeyed.

Galatians 3:19

19 What, then, was the purpose of the law?

Galatians 3:24-25 (GNT)

24 And so the Law was in charge of us until Christ came, in order that we might then be
put right with God through faith. 25 Now that the time for faith is here, the Law is no
longer in charge of us.

 The law leads us to Christ.

Galatians 3:24 (NLT)

24 The law was our guardian until Christ came; it protected us until we could be made
right with God through faith.

LIVING IN GRACE

  1. Grace is a Gift.

Romans 6:23

23 The wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus
our Lord.

  1. Grace is received by faith.

Ephesians 2:8-9

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves,
it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

Romans 4:16 (NCV)

16 So people receive God's promise by having faith. This happens so the promise can be
a free gift…

  1. Grace is available to everyone.

Romans 10:13

13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

  1. Grace comes only through Christ.

John 1:17

17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:15 (NCV)

15 … many people have received God’s gift of life by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ.

John 14:6

6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father
except through me.

Acts 4:12

12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to
mankind by which we must be saved.”

Galatians 2:21 (NLT)

21 Don’t treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if we could be saved by keeping the
law, then there was no need for Christ to die.

  1. Grace is extended throughout all eternity.

John 3:16

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes
in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

THE RESULT

Titus 2:11-12

For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say
“No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly
lives in this present age.
