Main Idea:
Jesus saved his best gift for last His Holy Spirit… God
Jesus said to wait for a gift
Acts 1:1-5 - 1 In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach 2 until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. 3 After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” NIV
The timing of this gift is powerful
Acts 2:1-4 – 1 When the day of PENTECOST came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. NIV
Here is my question to you:
Are you living a life empowered by the Holy Spirit?
Can you literally feel a supernatural strength on your life?
The holy spirit changed everything
They went from fearful to empowered
Their commitment level to the things of God increased
Acts 2 - Vs. 42 - They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer…Vs. 45 - They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need…V. 47 And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. NIV
Luke 24:44;49 - Then he said, “When I was with you before, I told you that everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and in the Psalms must be fulfilled.” (Knowledge) …Vs. 49 “And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.” NLT
Key moments in a Christians life:
- Salvation
- Baptism in Water
- Baptism of the Holy Spirit
Instead of saying have you BEEN baptized in the Holy Spirit…it should be ARE you baptized in the Holy Spirit
Acts 19:1-2 - While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul traveled through the interior regions until he reached Ephesus, on the coast, where he found several believers. 2 “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” he asked them. “No,” they replied, “we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
Francis Chan – “Why do we think by downplaying the Holy Spirit, it will help people come to him better…If we are not excited about it…why would they ever be?”
Challenge Question:
Have you received the Holy Spirit since you believed?
If you prayed the prayer to start fresh with God today text “startagain” (one word) to 97000 so we can connect with you and help you take the next steps in this amazing decision.
