Genesis 1:1-31
If the first verse of the Bible isn’t true… then none of the rest of the Bible would be true!
1:1 | The universe was brought into existence. Before God created it, there was no earth, there was no time, there was no space.
The Hebrew word for God, Elohim, means God is one but more than one. (It is God in the plural form.) Meaning that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit were all present at creation.
Colossians 1:16 says, “For by Him (Jesus) all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities - all things were created through Him and for Him”
1:2 | Verse one ends with the phrase “and the earth” and verse two begins with “the earth.” There was no life on earth. It was like one large ocean.
2 Peter 3 backs up that the earth was water and all things were formed from this state.
How long ago did God make the heavens and the earth as stated in verse 1? Some people think that it was millions and even billions of years ago. Why? Because many believed scientists have proved it. The truth of the matter is that scientists have NOT proved it. In fact, the only real observable facts scientists have prove that the earth is only thousands of years old. (And there are scientists who believe this too!) The methods some scientists try to use to prove the earth is billions of years old is very complicated and unreliable, giving different numbers each time you try the method.
The Bible gives records of days through genealogy that helps us understand that the earth is only a little over 6,000 years old!
It is not possible to fit millions of years into the gap between verse 1 and verse 2!!! Millions of years is man’s idea and not God’s.
1:3 | God just had to speak and it was so. His power is that great.
1:5-31 | The Hebrew word used for day is “Yom.” Whenever it is accompanied by a number, it always means a literal day. It is universally agreed upon that this is true in all of Scripture except when someone is trying to justify the earth is millions of years old; then it is disregarded in Genesis 1 only. The same holds true for whenever the words, “there was evening and morning” is used. Every where in Scripture it is again agreed upon that it is a literal 24 hour day. (Unless you are trying to make man’s idea of evolution true, then you have to disregard it for Genesis 1.)
