Putting the Gospel on Display (Oct. 22)

Read: John 13:35, 1 Corinthians 16:14, Matthew 5:14, Ephesians 5:8

As believers, we are called to be light in a dark world. By serving both believers and unbelievers, those living in the dark can find the light.

My mother left an impact on my life, through her death. I was only a child, not quite nine and the youngest of five children, when we were eating our evening meal. We took our usual places at the table, bowed our heads and thanked God for the food. My mother, an excellent cook, had made a wonderful dessert and I was anxious to take my first bite. She suddenly collapsed and clutched her forehead. Dad and my brother rose to help her to the nearby couch. There she slipped into the arms of Jesus.

But mother left an impact on my life, in those 9 short years, by leading me to Christ and teaching me to listen to the Word of God and follow it.

Scripture tells us how we are to live and even how to serve, both the Lord and others.

As believers, we are called to be lamps in a dark world. By serving both believers and unbelievers, those living in the dark can find the light of the gospel.

Action Step: Read and meditate on the following verses. Ask the Lord for opportunities this week, to be a light in the darkness.

  1. We are to love one another. John 13:35 says “By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
  2. We are to serve with love. 1 Corinthians 16:14 says “Let all that you do be done with love.”
  3. People are watching us. Matthew 5:14 says “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.”
  4. Ephesians 5:8 says “For you were once in darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.”

Prayer: Father, You have made us light in a dark world. I ask that You would bring me opportunities this week, to serve those living in the darkness. Let them be drawn to Your light, hear the truth of the gospel, and be saved for all of eternity.
