West Ridge Church Mission Statement – Leading people to become fully devoted followers of Jesus.
What is a fully devoted follower of Jesus? It’s a Disciple!
“A disciple is a person who has decided that the most important thing in their life is to learn how to do what Jesus said to do. A disciple is not a person who has things under control, or knows a lot of things. Disciples simply are people who are constantly revising their affairs to carry through on their decision to follow Jesus.” —Dallas Willard
“If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.” —1 Corinthians 13:1-3
“Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.” —I Corinthians 13:13
“We love because he first loved us.” —I John 4:19
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” —1 John 3:1
How does God love us?
- His love for us is unconditional, undeserved, and unchanging.
“but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” —Romans 5:8
“He loved us not because we were lovable, but because of He is love.” —C.S. Lewis
- His love for us can be trusted.
“So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.” —1 John 4:16
- His love for us is everlasting.
“I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.” —Jeremiah 31:3
- His love for us satisfies.
“Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.” —Psalm 90:14
How should we respond to God’s love?
- Receive it into our lives
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” —John 3:16
- Live from it
“And he said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment.’” —Matthew 22:37-38
We live from love in two ways:
- Worship
“Worship is a believer’s response of all that he is – mind, emotions, will, and body—to all that God is and says and does.” —Warren Wiersbe
“Worship is our response both personal and corporate to God for who He is and what He has done- expressed in and by the things we say and the way we live” —Louie Giglio
- Obedience
“Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome.” —I John 5:3
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” —John 14:15
“And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” —Matthew 22:39
- Share it with others
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” —John 13:34-35
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” —John 15:12-13
How does God want us to share His love?
- Selfless
- Sacrificial
What Does Love Require Of Me?
- Rest in it
