Matthew 6:11

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one.” —Matthew 6:9-13

It is easy to take the goodness of God for

  1. When, if ever, have you been hungry and prayed for God to provide food so you
    would have enough to eat for that day?

  2. What does the story of God’s provision of manna and quail (Exodus 16) teach us
    about the way God supplies our needs?

  3. Why is it so easy for us to declare independence from God and difficult to declare our dependence on God?

  4. Proverbs 30:25 speaks of the wisdom of the ant and says- “Ants are creatures of
    little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer.” Scripture tells us that it is wise to prepare for the future. How do we balance that with

    “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” —Matthew 6:19-21

  5. Living dependently on God produces attitudes of gratitude, contentment,
    generosity, and security. What would be the opposite of those attitudes.
