Key Passages: Romans 1:1-7
1. Read Romans 1:1; Galatians 5:1
a. Paul describes himself as a bondservant, which is one who, though free, willingly chooses a life of servitude to a master. Discuss the idea of being a free servant.
i. How does this picture look in light of what you have experienced with most Christians?
b. Paul declares that he was “called to be an apostle (sent one).” “To be called by God is to be chosen by God for certain purposes.” How is this word misused in the church today?
2. Read Romans 1:3
a. Why is it important that Jesus was born of the flesh and is of the “seed of David?”
3. Read Romans 1:4
a. Why does resurrection from the dead “declare Jesus to be the Son of God?”
4. Romans 1:5-6
a. The word “nations” in verse five, “Ethnos” (also translated gentiles), is where we get our English word “Ethnic” how is this important to the good news of what Jesus accomplished on the cross? How does it tie to the Great Commission?
