We The People Of God, Pt. 1
1 Peter 2:9-10
Who Are We?
1 Peter 2:9, But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession…10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God;
1 Peter 2:7, Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,” 8 and, “A stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.”
Deuteronomy 7:7, The LORD did not set His affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. 8 But it was because the LORD loved you and kept the oath He swore to your ancestors that He brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
Deuteronomy 10:12, And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in obedience to Him, to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, 13 and to observe the LORD’s commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?
What Do We Share?
1 Peter 2:9, …that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.
John 8:12, When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 10:10, The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
Matthew 5:13, “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. 14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven.
What Motivates Us?
1 Peter 2:10, …once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
Psalm 103:10, He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. 11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for those who fear Him; 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
